MILFORD (WWJ) – A 58-year-old Milford woman is in custody after police say she beat a man and a dog with a metal rod.
According to police, the woman called 911 and reported that a man and a dog were seriously injured inside their home.
“We responded and found that caller out in the roadway, and officers were able to make entry into the home,” said Milford Police Chief Thomas Lindberg.
“At that point they found a 68-year-old white male unconscious and on the floor of the family room — obviously significant injuries to the head and torso area,” Lindberg said. “And, at the same time, right next to the male, there was an older Golden Retriever that had obvious significant injuries to the head area.”
The man was airlifted via Survival Flight to an area hospital.
He was on life support in serious condition, Monday afternoon, and the dog was being evaluated at a veterinary hospital.
Lindberg wouldn’t specify what the relationship was between the woman and the man, but did say the two lived together in the home and that the assault was considered a domestic violence incident.
The woman was arrested and interviewed at the Milford Police Department. She remains lodged at the Oakland County Jail pending expected attempted murder and animal cruelty charges.
No motive for the attack has been discussed. An investigation is ongoing.
No names were released.
