LANSING (AP) - Charges have been brought in two apparently unrelated Lansing cases involving brutalized pit bulls.

The Lansing State Journal reports 27-year-old Kitayi Hiram Burks was being sought on a felony charge of animal killing/torture after a dog was found dead and frozen Jan. 21 in a cage at Ingham Park. Ingham County Prosecutor Stuart Dunnings III says a $3,500 reward is being offered for information leading to his arrest.

Dunnings also announced Wednesday that 24-year-old Ray Emmanuel Potter of Dimondale is charged with misdemeanor animal abandonment after a beaten pit bull was found Jan. 19. Authorities say the dog was frozen to the ground and its legs were bound with heavy-duty electrical tape.

A message seeking comment from Potter’s lawyer Venu Yagalla was left Thursday morning by The Associated Press.
