STERLING HEIGHTS (WWJ) A 54-year old Sterling Heights man has been charged with animal cruelty after allegedly stabbing the family dog to death.
Police say Roman Laba and his wife had an argument late one evening and she later went to bed.
When she awoke the next morning, she told police that her dog, named Lucky, had been knifed to death.
Lucky was taken to a veterinary hospital for emergency treatment of multiple stab wounds and died at the vet.
Laba has been charged with a single felony count of killing an animal.
The charge carries a maximum penalty of 4 years imprisonment and a fine of $5,000. Laba was arraigned and placed on $50,000 cash bond.
His preliminary exam is scheduled for February 9 at 1:30 p.m. before Judge Maceroni.
