DETROIT (WWJ) - Officials with the Michigan Humane Society Cruelty Investigation Department say no humans were involved in the killing of more than a dozen animals at an urban farm operated by students at a Detroit alternative high school for pregnant and parenting teens.

Instead, investigators believe dogs are responsible for the carnage.

Officials on Friday were called to the Catherine Ferguson Academy in Detroit to investigate the apparent slaughter of animals. Investigators found that five goats and eight chickens had been killed. Two chickens were found alive, but injured.

School principal Asenath Andrews said some of the animals were bludgeoned while others had their necks cut. Andrews said the animals “were fine” at the end of the school day Thursday and that it looked as if “some crazy person had gone crazy on the animals” sometime overnight.

After investigating the scene, however, officials brought the animals back to the humane society for forensic analysis where it was determined that their wounds were consistent with dog bites.

Authorities are unsure if the attack was made by a single dog or multiple dogs, but say an investigation is ongoing.
