MASON (WWJ) — Authorities are offering a reward to anyone with information in the abuse of a dog found in Lansing.

The Michigan Humane Society and Ingham County Animal Control’s Animal Cruelty Task Force are offering a combined $2,500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the people responsible for putting a heavy chain around a dog’s neck and neglecting it to the point where it became embedded in his skin.

The dog was discovered on April 18 in Risdale Park at 4500 Pleasant Grove Rd. in Lansing. Someone contacted Ingham County Animal Control after making the gruesome discovery. Officers responded to the complaint and found a male, blue pit-bull mix with a heavy chain embedded into the flesh of the dog’s neck.

The person making the call to Animal Control said that the dog was found running loose in the park. Animal Control staff and a veterinarian were able to remove the chain and successfully close the wound. The dog is expected to make a full recovery.

“An embedded collar is the result of weeks or months of neglect with the dog in agonizing pain as their skin grows around it,” MHS Chief Cruelty Investigator Debby MacDonald said. “This is severe neglect and the individual responsible for this watched it happen over time and did nothing. They need to face the consequences for their inaction.”

If you have any information regarding this case, you can contact Ingham County Animal Control at 517-676-8370.
