LANSING (WWJ/AP) - A $300 reward is being offered for information after an emaciated Siberian Husky puppy was found at Mount Home Cemetery in Lansing.

Caretakers at the cemetery found the 12-week-old dog Monday and called Ingham County Animal Control, The Lansing State Journal reported. The dog had skin infections and was barely able to move. Its harness had also grown into its shoulder.

Animal Control Officer Juan Delatorre responded and says the dog was a “shell of skin and bones.” He says the dog cringed and whined when he tried to pick it up.

“It’s just crazy how bad of shape a 12-week-old pup is already in. It usually takes a long time for dogs to get like that so,  this dog was clearly neglected from the day somebody had it,” said Delatorre.

The dog, nicknamed “Odie,” was walking and wagging his tail Tuesday, but it’s not yet clear if he’s out of the woods yet.

The dog is recovering at the Ingham County Animal Shelter in Mason. Officials hope that someone knows who the dog belonged to.

“We are confident someone knows who had this dog,” shelter Director Jamie McAloon Lampman told the Journal.

“This dog didn’t get to this point overnight, and someone knows something about him. There is just no excuse for this. There are too many services out there to help people with things like this,” she said.

Anyone with information about the dog or his owner is asked to call 517-676-8370 or the animal cruelty anonymous tip line at 517-676-8376.
