TROY (WWJ) - Police say a drunk Troy woman was arrested after she dragged a puppy on a leash and swung him in the air in an alarming case of animal cruelty.
According to police, a concerned citizen was driving Thursday afternoon in the area of Maple Road and Livernois when she noticed the woman walking a large dog and dragging a small brown puppy along the ground.
Seeing that the puppy was unable to get its footing and appeared hurt, the concerned citizen got out of the car and confronted the woman, who began screaming profanities.
The complainant told the woman she was choking the puppy and attempted to grab the injured dog at which time the woman swung the puppy through the air on its leash.
Police said the concerned citizen was able to wrestle the pup away from the woman, running into a local business where employees locked the door dialed 911.
When police arrived, they spoke with the inebriated dog-walker, a 61-year-old Troy resident, and saw that the puppy’s paws were bleeding. The woman was taken into custody and then released pending a warrant on animal cruelty and assault and battery charges.
Both dogs are now in care of Oakland County Animal Control where the puppy is being treated for its injuries.
No names have been released.
